AHSOKA Season 2 Is Going Big With ‘A Lot More Lightsaber Action,’ Witches, Space Battles and Explosions
It sounds like Ahsoka Season 2 is cranking the Star Wars insanity dial up to eleven. More lightsabers, more space battles, more witches, more swords, and enough explosions to keep things properly chaotic.
According to Ezra Bridger actor Eman Esfandi, fans should prepare for a much faster and more action-heavy second season.
While speaking at D23, Esfandi offered a pretty exciting preview of what Dave Filoni has been cooking up for the next chapter of the Disney+ Star Wars series, and apparently the first season was only getting warmed up.
Esfandi said: "There's going to be more lightsabers. A lot more lightsaber action. There's going to be some space battles, some space action, and there's going to be witches, and swords, and explosions galore.
“It's going to be really fun, really fast-paced, and we may or may not hear something about that a little later today. So, stay tuned here at D23 for Ahsoka season 2."
That's a pretty awesome checklist for a Star Wars adventure. Season 1 already gave fans lightsaber duels, Nightsister magic, hyperspace-traveling space whales, zombie stormtroopers, and the long-awaited live-action arrival of several Star Wars Rebels characters.
From the way Esfandi describes it, Season 2 intends to take those ingredients and unleash them on a much larger scale.
Some of those promised space battles will probably involve Grand Admiral Thrawn and the returning Admiral Ackbar. Ackbar is set to appear in Ahsoka Season 2 and will go up against Thrawn, creating the possibility of a military showdown between two commanders with very different histories in the galaxy.
The mention of witches is also interesting considering where the story left the Nightsisters of Dathomir. The Great Mothers played an important role in Thrawn's return from Peridea, and Esfandi's comments suggest Nightsister magic could continue to have a major presence as the story moves forward.
There's plenty happening on the Force side of things as well. Hayden Christensen will return as Anakin Skywalker following his appearances in the first season, although exactly how Anakin factors into the new story remains under wraps.
Season 2 will also introduce Rory McCann as Baylan Skoll. Baylan's story ended with the character standing atop the statues of the Mortis gods on Peridea, setting up one of the show's biggest lingering mysteries.
Esfandi has previously talked about just how action-packed the new episodes are, and his earlier comments make it sound like Filoni wants to go big!
"A lot of action. Fights, battles, explosions, lightsabers, lasers," Esfandi said. "I'm having a flashback. So a lot of action, and I think everybody's gonna love it. Dave [Filoni] went nuts, and all of us were ready to follow suit of our fearless leader, and it's gonna be a lot of fun."
Considering where Ahsoka left its characters, there's certainly plenty of room for things to get wild. Ezra made it back to the familiar Star Wars galaxy, but Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren remain stranded on Peridea.
Thrawn has returned with the Great Mothers, Baylan is pursuing whatever mysterious power is calling to him, and Shin Hati has gone off on her own.
Throw Ackbar, Anakin, Nightsister witchcraft, major space combat, and "more lightsaber action" into that mix, and Season 2 will be a much bigger Star Wars spectacle than its predecessor.
There still isn't a release date for Ahsoka Season 2, but I’m excited to see exactly how crazy Filoni gets with this!
