Alan Tudyk’s SUPERMAN Robot #4 Gets the Spotlight in New BTS Video from James Gunn

James Gunn is having a little fun at the expense of one of the weirdest and oddly charming corners of his upcoming Superman movie.

In a recently shared behind the scenes video, Gunn gives fans a peek at Alan Tudyk’s character in the film… Robot #4, and Tudyk leans into it in exactly the way you'd hope.

The video, posted on Gunn’s X account, highlights the motion capture and voice work that brought the character to life. Tudyk, explains:

“His voice is my voice with better annunciation.”

We also get a taste of the robot’s purpose in the world of the film. As the character states in the clip:

“We have no consciousness whatsoever… we are merely automotons here to serve.”

There’s a delightful weirdness to this kind of thing, and it’s exactly the kind of deep-cut comic book quirk Gunn enjoys plating with.

The film’s official synopsis reads:

“Superman, DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor, and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.”

The cast of Superman also includes David Corenswet as Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois, Skyler Gisondo as Clark’s best pal, Jimmy Olsen; Wendell Pierce as The Daily Planet’s Perry White; Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl; Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders, aka Hawkgirl; and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner.

Superman lands in theaters and IMAX on July 11, 2025.
