ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL Fans Rent Billboard Space to Inspire Disney to Make a Sequel
As producer Jon Landau continues to push for a sequel to Alita: Battle Angel, a group of fans known as the Alita Army has raised money to rent billboard space in Los Angeles to urge Disney to make the sequel. Photos of this billboard have popped up on social media and you can check those photos out below.
The question is, will Disney even notice or care? I’d love to see a sequel to Alita! The first movie was awesome! I just have no idea is this is a franchise that Disney has any interest in pursuing.
While part of the billboard’s message is to raise awareness for the #AlitaSequel campaign, there’s another very important message. Alita: Battle Angel star Rosa Salazar is taking part in philanthropic efforts to battle the current health crisis, and the Alita Army is donating the money from the fundraiser to the charities Feeding America and Action Against Hunger.
When previously talking about the plans for the sequels, Robert Rodriguez said that James Cameron wrote up 1,000 pages of notes for him that spanned the course of a trilogy of films. So, they knew exactly where they wanted the story to lead.
The film’s star, Christoph Waltz, opened up about the possibility of returning for a sequel, and he said, “Of course!”
“But, you know, I’m as wise as you are. I haven’t heard anything and I’m a little disappointed and surprised that I haven’t heard a thing so far, because I know that it has followers. I know that people liked it and aside from what others said, I loved it and I liked working on it and I liked the result. You know, it was Fox and Fox doesn’t exist anymore. Now it’s Disney. Maybe it doesn’t fit into the Disneyfication, but I have no clue. I have no clue. Maybe they’re working on something and I wouldn’t be the first person to hear, but meanwhile, I haven’t heard anything.”
Rosa Salazar also previously said that she would play the character until her last breath:
“I would play Alita ‘til my last breath. I would, and thanks to the performance capture technology, I probably could.”
Well, renting out billboard space for Zack Snyder’s Justice League seemed to work out great in the end for DC fans! Maybe this will play a part in helping get that Alita sequel made!
