Amazon Studios' TOMB RAIDER Plans Also Include a Movie and Video Game

Last week it was announced that Amazon Studios was producing a new live-action Tomb Raider series with Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag and Killing Eve) writing the show and executive producing. There’s been an update to that report revealing that Amazon has even bigger plans for the franchise.

Deadline has revealed that they will also be developing a new movie and video games. The report says: “The projects are part of a Tomb Raider multi-platform universe Amazon has been putting together, which also includes games; Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics announced a couple of weeks ago an agreement to develop a new Tomb Raider single-player game.”

This is the same approach that Amazon will be taking with Warhammer 40,000, which is being developed by Henry Cavill. That will also include TV, film, and game projects.

Waller-Bridge will be working on the series with Amazon Studios’ former Head of Comedy Ryan Andolina and Amanda Greenblatt, most recently Head Of First-Look and Overall Deals. Dmitri Johnson from dj2, who secured the rights to the Tomb Raider property, is overseeing the development of the franchise and production.

As a fan of the Tomb Raider franchise, I have high hopes for this. Waller-Bridge has developed some great projects, and she seems like she’s actually a great fit for this franchise.
