Amazon’s TOMB RAIDER Series Just Became a Huge Deal and Sets Up a “Unified Storytelling Universe”
Amazon’s live action take on Lara Croft has suddenly leapt into major event territory. A new listing for the upcoming Tomb Raider series reveals that Prime Video is not just adapting the franchise, they are preparing to reshape it in a way that links television and games into one giant connected universe.
For fans who have followed Lara across consoles, comics, animation, and film, this is the biggest indication yet that Amazon is going all in on one of gaming’s most iconic heroes.
According to Story Kitchen’s official description of the project, the series plans to “reinvent the franchise on a massive scale, interconnecting a new live action television series and video games into a unified storytelling universe.”
That is a massive swing for a property that has lived many lives across different mediums, and it immediately raises the stakes for what Prime Video is building.
This new comes after reports circulated that Tomb Raider had been canceled at Amazon, only for the production to roar back with a confirmed 2026 filming date. Now it feels like the opposite of a troubled project. It feels like the start of something much bigger.
The series stars Sophie Turner, stepping into the role of Lara Croft after her run on Game of Thrones. Creator Phoebe Waller Bridge is thrilled with the casting and the direction of the show.
In a statement she said, “I'm so excited to announce the formidable Sophie Turner as our Lara alongside this phenomenal creative team. It's not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving.”
While Amazon charts a new future for Lara, fans still have animation to enjoy on Netflix. Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, starring Hayley Atwell, is heading into its final season after only two.
Lara’s gaming future is also in motion. A new entry in the Tomb Raider game series is currently in development at Crystal Dynamics. Aside from the 2022 announcement, the studio has kept things quiet, but with Amazon now openly planning crossover storytelling, curiosity around the next game is only going to grow.
A live action series, a new game, and an interconnected plan. If Amazon delivers on the scale they’re promising, this could be a defining new era for one of gaming’s greatest adventurers.
