Another Alternate Design for the Xenomorph Hybrid Creature in ALIEN: ROMULUS and it Has Wings

Here’s another alternate design for the xenomorph hybrid that Fede Alvarez introduced us to in Alien: Romulus. This crazy design for “The Offspring” sports wings, which is an interesting addition to the design.

The art was created by concept artist Dane Hallett, who shared the following note:

“Alien: Romulus... The Full Grown Offspring.

“At one point the material Kay uses on herself has such a dramatic genetic effect on her unborn child that it grew into this monstrosity. It made it all the way to previs when it finally changed into something else (I’ll eventually share) before reverting back to just being the offspring you saw in the final cut.

“This was nerve-racking... Was I going to be responsible for an unloved mutation in the Alien Universe? I tried desperately to give this thing purpose, presence and make it an ode to all that had come before it...

“In the end, I’m grateful we got what we got in the final cut, but here’s what could have been.

“The beginning frame represents the final version that made it to previs, while the last ones are my roughs where it was meant to be attached to the hull of the Corbelan.

“Drink acid blood and listen to Ministry.

“Cheers!!!”

Alvarez previously revealed that the studio initially had some reservations about this creature, saying: "They did [push back] at the beginning [with regard to the Offspring], but not because they didn’t like it.

“They just thought, 'Is it too much? Do we really have to go there?' And I was like, 'Yeah, now that you said that we shouldn’t, I know that I will.' So that’s exactly what we did here. If you’re given an Alien movie by a corporation that is owned by Disney and they immediately say, 'Yeah, let’s make it,' then you are failing somehow. So we really pushed it to the limit, and I’m glad we did."
