Anthony Mackie Was So Nervous Acting with Harrison Ford That He Forgot His Lines in CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD
Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford are going to be sharing a good amount of screen time together in Captain America: Brave New World. Mackie takes on the role of Sam Wilson, aka Captain America, and Ford is set to play General Ross, who is President of the United States. When previously teasing the relationship between the two characters, producer Nate Moore said:
"Harrison Ford is taking on the role of General Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross, and to see Sam Wilson and Thunderbolt Ross, which if you remember actually threw him in prison at the end of Civil War because he violated the Sokovia Accords. There's going to be some natural sparks there, which I think are going to be really fun."
According to Mackie, shooting his scenes with Ford was pretty nerve-wracking. He was so nervous that he couldn’t remember his lines! When talking about acting with Ford, Mackie told Inverse:
"The first day was so intimidating. I was so f**king nervous I couldn't remember my lines. He's Harrison f**king Ford. There is this aura about him. But he dispels that really quickly because he’s such a cool guy. He's everything a movie star should be. He would say, 'Let's shoot this piece of shit.' And everybody was like, 'Yeah, let’s shoot this shit.’’
The actor went on to talk about Wilson’s relationship with Ross:
"We spent a good bit of time together. Ross and Cap have always had that relationship, where they were friends and they respected each other, but they always bumped heads. That’s their relationship in the storyline."
Kevin Feige also talked about dynamic between Wilson and Ford: “There's a dynamic between President Ross and Sam Wilson. They have a history together, but in this film, we'll be seeing the dynamic between Captain America and the president of the United States in a way that is just incredible.”
Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox) is set to direct the film from a script penned by Dalan Musson and Malcolm Spellman, both of whom wrote for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Spellman will produce with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
Brave New World hits theaters on May 3, 2024.
