Anya Taylor-Joy Joins THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM in a Brand-New Elf Role

The cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum just got even more interesting. Warner Bros. Pictures has officially announced that Anya Taylor-Joy is joining the upcoming Middle-earth adventure, bringing another major star into a project that is already packed with familiar faces from Tolkien’s world.

Directed by Andy Serkis, who will once again step into the role of Gollum, The Hunt for Gollum is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated fantasy films on the horizon. While fans are eager to see the return of iconic characters, the addition of Taylor-Joy introduces a completely new figure to the mythology.

Taylor-Joy will play Seren, described as “a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm, a trusted and lethal agent of King Thranduil (Pace).”

That connection places her alongside Lee Pace’s Thranduil, the Elven King who memorably appeared in The Hobbit trilogy. While details regarding Seren’s role in the story remain under wraps, the description suggests she’ll be more than capable when it comes to navigating the dangers of Middle-earth.

The film’s cast is already loaded with talent. Alongside Serkis, the movie stars Ian McKellen returning as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo, Lee Pace as Thranduil, Kate Winslet as Marigol, Jamie Dornan as Strider, and Leo Woodall as Halvard.

Taylor-Joy’s addition feels like a natural fit for a fantasy epic of this scale. The actress recently appeared as Alia Atreides in Dune: Part Two and is set to return to the role in Dune: Part Three later this year. She also voices Princess Peach in the animated Super Mario films and she also played Furiosa in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

Her career has been filled with standout genre projects, including The Witch, Split, Thoroughbreds, The New Mutants, Last Night in Soho, The Menu, and The Queen’s Gambit. Whether she’s leading psychological thrillers, action adventures, or fantasy stories, she consistently brings a unique screen presence that should fit perfectly within Tolkien’s world.

Peter Jackson is producing alongside Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, and Zane Weiner. Executive producers include Ken Kamins, Serkis, and Jonathan Cavendish of The Imaginarium. The screenplay was written by Walsh, Boyens, Phoebe Gittins, and Arty Papageorgiou.

Plot details are still largely being kept secret, but the story is expected to explore events connected to Gollum’s journey and the hunt for him during the timeline of Tolkien’s larger saga. That leaves plenty of room for familiar characters, new faces, and untold stories from one of fantasy’s richest worlds.

With Anya Taylor-Joy now entering Middle-earth, The Hunt for Gollum just became even more intriguing. Fans have been waiting to see how Warner Bros. would expand Tolkien’s cinematic universe, and bringing in an actress with Taylor-Joy’s range and star power certainly makes this next chapter worth keeping an eye on.

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum arrives in theaters on December 17, 2027.
