Ariana Grande Has Been Offered a Role In The SPACEBALLS Sequel

Josh Gad has been leading the charge on a Spaceballs sequel that is currently set up at Amazon MGM Studios, with Josh Greenbaum set to direct.

It seems like they’ve now started the casting process and have even made some offers, one of those offers went out to Wicked star Ariana Granda.

In THR's profile of Grande, the trade mentions that the recent Academy Award-nominee has been offered a number of roles which she has yet to commit to, and one of those includes a part in Spaceballs 2.

"A disaster wedding comedy, a female detective romp set in a Housewives-style reality show, and a Spaceballs sequel."

When asked about these projects, Grande responded:

“Well, I can neither confirm nor deny, but I’m blushing. I just think it’s such an important thing to stay connected to that guttural creative thing in my heart and my chest that wants to give itself over to something that screams at me and says, ‘Oh, that’s a really cool challenge.’ I have a thing, and when it goes off, I know.”

Gad previously talked about the script for the film and said that everyone who has read it, has been blown away by it.

He said: “Without MGM taking me into their Culver prison cells, I can tell you that the draft is done. Everybody who’s read it has been blown away. The process of working on this with and alongside Mel Brooks has been one of the highlights of my career.”

Gad goes on to say the whole experience has been “sort of a fever dream” and said that producer Mel Brooks “has been so unbelievably supportive, involved, and electrified by this because it’s the one that surprisingly got away.”

He added: “It’s a dream to be able to finally make the reality prophesied by Yogurt in the first movie happen. I can’t say more than that.

“I can’t tell you anything beyond [the] process at this point, but I can tell you every hour of every day right now is spent making this project closer and closer to reality — and I think we’re nearing the end zone here.”

Gad previously talked about the script saying that it’s “the funniest and best thing [he’s] ever worked on.”

The original 1987 sci-fi Star Wars comedy spoof follows the adventures of Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) and his sidekick Barf (John Candy), a half-man, half-dog creature, as they attempt to rescue Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) from the evil clutches of Dark Helmet (Moranis) and President Skroob (Brooks).

In their quest, they receive guidance from the wise and powerful Yogurt, who introduces them to "The Schwartz," a mystical power.
