Ariana Grande Reportedly Eyed for the Lead Role in Drew Goddard’s New MATRIX Movie
The Matrix franchise is gearing up for a major revival, and it could have an unexpected new face in the lead role. According to a report from scooper @MyTimeToShineH, Ariana Grande is being considered for a lead role in the film.
Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) is set to write and direct the movie, and while there are no plot details, this casting rumor is sure to raise some eyebrows and some debate among fans.
Warner Bros. Discovery announced this new Matrix movie last year and whether it’s unclear if this project will be a reboot, spin-off, or direct continuation of the original storyline.
Goddard previously shared his excitement for the movie saying: “It is not hyperbole to say The Matrix films changed both cinema and my life.
“Lana and Lilly’s exquisite artistry inspires me on a daily basis, and I am beyond grateful for the chance to tell stories in their world.”
Since its groundbreaking debut in 1999, The Matrix has been a cornerstone of sci-fi cinema. However, follow-ups like The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions struggled to match the original's acclaim. The 2021 sequel, The Matrix Resurrections, directed by Lana Wachowski, also left fans divided.
If this rumor is true, Grande’s involvement in a Matrix film would be a huge shift in her acting career. Following her critically praised performance in Wicked, Grande has expressed a growing interest in pursuing more roles in film and theater.
She said: “I think I love acting; I love musical theater. Reconnecting with this part of myself...finding roles to use these parts of myself is something I want to explore more.”
Taking on a lead role in a Matrix film would undoubtedly be a major leap for Grande, and she has talked about her desire to balance music with other creative pursuits, adding:
“I’m always going to make music, but I don’t think doing it at the rate I’ve been doing for the past 10 years is where I see the next 10 years.”
There’s no word yet on whether franchise stars like Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, or Laurence Fishburne will return, but if Grande actually ends up being cast, this will be a very different and unique direction for the franchise.
I honestly don’t see the franchise going into the direction of casting Grande, but, Hollywood is a crazy place, so anything can happen!
