AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Is Already Closing in on SUPERGIRL's Entire Box Office Total Before It Even Hits Theaters

Marvel Studios hasn't even released Avengers: Doomsday yet, and the movie is already dangerously close to making more money in ticket presales than DC's Supergirl earned during its entire theatrical run. That's a pretty brutal comparison, especially considering the next Avengers movie is still more than a month away from hitting theaters.

According to Forbes, Avengers: Doomsday has pulled in more than $125 million in advance ticket sales since they went on sale on August 14. Meanwhile, Supergirl finished its worldwide box office run with just $126,466,532.

That puts Marvel's upcoming blockbuster less than $1.5 million away from beating DC's entire theatrical haul before a single opening-weekend screening. Since those presale numbers were reported on October 31, there's a good chance Doomsday has already passed that total.

The advance ticket sales have been impressive. By September, Doomsday had already crossed $50 million in presales, despite Dune: Part Three securing most IMAX screens across international markets. Marvel is offering another premium viewing option through Disney-certified Infinity Vision theaters.

I think we all knew this movie was going to be a monster hit at the box office regardless of the issues it faced. Marvel Studios had to completely rethink its original Avengers: The Kang Dynasty plans following the controversy surrounding Jonathan Majors. Now, Doomsday is shaping up to be one of Marvel's biggest box office successes.

The bigger question is whether it can come anywhere close to the record-breaking performance of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which recently surpassed Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become the highest-grossing movie ever at the domestic box office. I’d put my money on, yes it can.

Marvel has also been giving fans plenty to talk about ahead of the release. The theatrical re-release Avengers: Endgame Encore included four new scenes connecting directly to Doomsday.

Those additions featured a new ending involving Loki, two mid-credits scenes, and a post-credits sequence hinting at a connection between Tony Stark and Victor Von Doom. One particularly interesting revelation showed that Doctor Doom had abducted Bruce Banner.

There's still no announced Disney+ release date for Endgame Encore, although a landing page for it has already appeared on the streaming service.

Marvel clearly has some big surprises planned for the fans, and they are oboviously excited to see how this story plays out.

With Avengers: Doomsday set to hit US theaters on December 18, its advance ticket sales are already making a strong case for a massive opening weekend. The fact that it could beat Supergirl's entire worldwide box office total before opening day is pretty wild.
