AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Rumor Claims Bucky Will Suffer Another Horrific Injury
Things could get seriously nasty for Bucky Barnes in Avengers: Doomsday. A new rumor claims the longtime MCU hero may suffer a brutal injury involving one of his arms, but it’s apparently not the arm everyone expects.
Sebastian Stan has spent years playing Bucky Barnes, whose metal arm has become one of the character’s most recognizable features. With Avengers: Doomsday coming up later this year, speculation surrounding Bucky’s fate has been picking up, including rumors that the former Winter Soldier may not make it out of the movie alive.
One AI enhanced image circulating online depicted Bucky having one of his arms ripped from his body. Now, scooper James Mack claims it may have accidentally gotten close to something that happens in Avengers: Doomsday, with one particularly gruesome difference.
Mack wrote: “This AI image of Bucky from Avengers Doomsday that’s been circulating around is real, okay? But here’s the thing, in the movie, it’s not his metal arm that gets ripped off… it’s the flesh one lol.”
Well, that would be horrific for Bucky! If the rumor turns out to be accurate, Bucky could lose his remaining flesh-and-blood arm. That would be a pretty savage turn for a character who has already been put through an absurd amount of physical and psychological punishment during his MCU run.
For now, though, this should be treated strictly as a rumor. Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything about Bucky losing an arm or his ultimate fate in Avengers: Doomsday.
Bucky has been part of the MCU since Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011, where he was introduced as Steve Rogers’ childhood best friend and a sergeant in the U.S. Army’s 107th Infantry.
During the mission to capture Dr. Arnim Zola in the Austrian Alps, Bucky was caught in an explosion and fell from a train, leaving Steve believing his friend was dead.
Of course, Bucky survived and eventually returned as the brainwashed Winter Soldier in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He later appeared in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
He also teamed with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and returned in Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* in 2025.
The post-credits scene of Thunderbolts* also pointed toward Bucky being part of the New Avengers alongside Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, giving him a major place in the MCU heading into Avengers: Doomsday.
Bucky fans probably shouldn’t panic just yet. But if the rumor is legit, the Winter Soldier may be leaving Avengers: Doomsday with a lot fewer original parts than he had going in.
