AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Rumor Teases a Surprising Role for the MCU’s Young Avengers

The roster for Avengers: Doomsday is going to be huge and there are still chracters that have yet to be revealed. One group fans expect to see in the film is MCU’s Young Avengers.

While Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed their formation yet, a new rumor suggests these younger heroes might still play a big role in the Multiverse Saga’s endgame.

For a while now, Marvel Studios has been slowly introducing younger heroes across multiple projects, leading many fans to assume a Young Avengers or possibly Champions team-up was on the horizon.

Characters like Wiccan (Joe Locke), Speed (Ruaridh Mollica), Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), Hawkeye’s Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), and Ironheart (Dominique Thorne) are the most obvious candidates to form that team.

Of course, none of these characters are really that young anymore. Early concept art tied to the next Avengers films even showed some of these characters alongside Star-Lord and Wong, hinting at how they might fit into the larger story.

However, Anthony Russo and Joe Russo previously said that artwork shouldn’t be taken as a preview of what we’ll actually see in Doomsday and Secret Wars, suggesting Marvel’s plans could look very different.

Now a new update from The Cosmic Circus insider Alex Perez offers a clue about where these characters may fit into the Multiverse Saga’s finale. Perez shared:

“The Young Avengers' (which features Kate Bishop as co-captain) role at the end of the Multverse is equivalent to the role of Ant-Man in Endgame. (And y'all need to stop using that leaked concept art as an idea of what’s going to happen, cause it’s very different this time around).”

That comparison to Ant-Man in Avengers: Endgame is interesting. In that film, Scott Lang ended up stuck in the Quantum Realm and later returned with the key idea that allowed the Avengers to attempt their time heist and undo Thanos’ snap. Without that discovery, the entire plan to restore the universe wouldn’t have happened.

If the Young Avengers fill a similar narrative role in this saga, it could mean they’re the ones who uncover the solution to whatever reality-breaking chaos unfolds in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

There’s also another angle that lines up with rumors about the Secret Wars storyline. Reports have suggested that Doctor Doom creates Battleworld, a patchwork reality where people forget their previous lives.

In the original Marvel Comics storyline, a small group of Earth-616 heroes survived the collapse of reality aboard a life raft and eventually discovered Doom’s new world.

If Marvel adapts that concept, there’s a chance the Young Avengers could be among the few who still remember what the universe used to be. That would put them in a unique position to guide the older heroes and push them toward fixing reality.

Should that rumor prove true, these Young Avengers characters might end up carrying a lot of narrative weight during the final phase of the Multiverse Saga. It would also give Marvel a smart way to transition the franchise toward its next generation of heroes.

Time will tell how it all plays out, but fans are definitely eager to see the MCU finally bring this team together. The pieces are already in place across several films and Disney+ shows. It’s just a matter of when Marvel decides to pull the trigger.

Avengers: Doomsday is currently set to hit theaters on December 18, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
