AVENGERS: ENDGAME Directors Confused by Robert Downey Jr.'s Comments About Playing IRON MAN Again
Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. recently said that he’d “Happily” play Tony Stark again in the MCU. He explained “It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me.”
The actor went on to say: “And look, I always say, Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”
Well, Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo are confused by these comments because they closed the book on Iron Man’s story.
During an interview with GamesRadar, Anthony Russo said: "I don’t know how they would do it. I don’t know what the road to that would be [laughs]."
Meanwhile, his brother Joe added: "I mean we closed that book so it would be up to them to figure out how to reopen it."
I think it would be a good idea to bring Downey Jr. back as Iron Man, even if it’s a variant from another universe. His story arc just ended so perfectly, the stakes were real, and bringing him back would ruin that.
Kevin Feige previously said that Downey Jr. will not be coming back to play Tony Stark, and that they have no plans to do that after his heroic death in Avengers: Endgame.
When asked about the rumors, Feige said: “We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again. We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”
So, while there are rumors of Iron Man returning and Downey Jr. is open to the idea, chances are… it’s not going to happen.
What do you think about the possibility of bringing Iron Man back into the MCU?
