Robert Downey Jr. Says He Would “Happily” Play Iron Man Again: "That Role Chose Me"
Robert Downey Jr. had an incredible run as Tony Stark / Iron Man in the MCU. But, when he died in Avengers: Endgame, we knew it was going to be a long shot of seeing him in the role again.
There have been rumors that Marvel Studios were looking at bringing him back for Avengers: Secret Wars, but those rumors were debunked by Kevin Feige saying, they “would never magically undo” his death.
However, if Marvel Studios came knocking at Downy Jr.’s door asking him to reprise his role, he’d be up for it! During a recent interview with Esquire, the actor was asked if he’d be willing to play Iron Man again, and the actor replied: “Happily.”
He added: “It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”
There are ways to bring Tony Stark back due to the multiverse, alternate timelines, and variants. But, this is one character a lot of fans would like Marvel to see leave alone. The impact of his death was too meaningful.
When previously talking about Tony Stark sacrifice, Feige said: “We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again. We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”
But, if Marvel did want to bring Stark back in some way, Downey Jr. is willing to do it! How would you like to see Marvel handle the return of Tony Stark if they moved forward with it?
