BARBIE Movie Producers Tried to Get WONDER WOMAN Star Gal Gadot on Board

The upcoming Barbie looks like it’s going to be a surprisingly good time. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the film when it was first announced, but it certainly wasn’t what the movie is actually going to be! It’s going to take audiences on a wild and silly adventure!

The movie also managed to bring together an impressive ensemble cast led by Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, but there was another big actress that they tried to get on board… Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot! Unfortunately, they weren’t able to make it happen.

Robbie shared this bit of trivia herself during an interview with Vogue explaining why they wanted Gadot in the movie, saying:

"Gal Gadot is Barbie energy. Because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don't hate her for being that beautiful, because she's so genuinely sincere, and she's so enthusiastically kind, that it's almost dorky. It's like right before being a dork."

Gadot definitely would have been a perfect fit for that world! The rest of the cast includes Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live), Ariana Greenblatt (Love and Monsters), Issa Rae (Insecure), Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Hari Nef (Transparent), Will Ferrell (Saturday Night Live), Kingsley Ben-Adir, Helen Mirren, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Dua Lipa, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kayne, Alexandra Shipp, Kate McKinnon and, America Ferrera. Then there’s John Cena, who plays a mermaid-like version of Ken!

When talking about the idea for the story, director Greta Gerwig said while touring Mattel, she was surprised to learn how diverse the entire line of dolls named Barbie were, pointing out, "Now all of the dolls are Barbie. All of them are Barbie, and Barbie is everyone. Philosophically, I was like, 'Well, now that's interesting.'" Tthat helped with the "expansive idea of self that we could all learn from."

For over 62 years, “Barbie has led girls on a path to self-discovery and helped them to imagine the possibilities. After over 180 inspirational careers, Barbie—along with her friends and family—continues to inspire and encourage the next generation of girls that they can be anything.”

The movie hits theaters on July 21, 2023.t
