Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz Officially Return for Universal’s THE MUMMY 4 Which Hits Theaters in 2028
Universal is officially dusting off the sarcophagi and bringing the heart of The Mummy franchise back where it belongs. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are locked in to star in the studio’s The Mummy 4, with the film set to hit theaters on May 19, 2028.
This new chapter reunites Fraser and Weisz with the franchise that turned their on-screen chemistry into something iconic. Weisz starred in the first two films, The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, while Fraser led the charge across the original trilogy, including The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.
The project is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, better known as Radio Silence. The duo recently teamed with Universal on the vampire thriller Abigail, and this marks another high-profile collaboration between the filmmakers and the studio.
The script comes from David Coggeshall, whose recent credits include The Family Plan and Orphan: First Kill. Story details are being kept wrapped up, but the creative team suggests Universal is aiming for something fresh without losing the spirit that made the earlier films so fun.
Longtime franchise producer Sean Daniel is also back in the mix, which feels like a smart move considering his deep history with the series. Daniel produced the first three Mummy films, along with the 2017 reboot starring Tom Cruise.
The Mummy brand has pulled in roughly $1.8 billion worldwide, and Universal clearly wants to build this next chapter on familiar creative ground. Fraser is also stepping in as an executive producer.
For Radio Silence, this movie fits neatly into an already busy slate. The directing duo’s next stop is Searchlight’s Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, the follow-up to their cult-favorite horror hit.
With Fraser and Weisz back, Radio Silence at the helm, and Universal positioning the film as a prime summer event, this new Mummy movie is shaping up to be somthing fans will enjoy.
