CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 4 Trailer Introduces Mads Mikkelsen as Its New Villain
Mads Mikkelsen has officially entered the Call of Duty battlefield, and he’s bringing some serious villain energy with him.
Infinity Ward has released the first campaign trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, revealing Mads Mikkelsen as The Archer, the mysterious main villain threatening to make an already terrible situation much worse for John Price and what remains of Task Force 141.
The trailer premiered during Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 and offers our first real taste of the final chapter in the Modern Warfare saga. Price is a wanted man, war has broken out on the Korean Peninsula, and a catastrophic weapon is being delivered to an enemy whose intentions remain unknown.
Basically, Price has a lot more to worry about than staying off the radar. The official synopsis lays out where things stand:
"Price is on the run, conflict has erupted on the Korean Peninsula, and a catastrophic weapon of war is on the verge of falling into the wrong hands. Following the assassination of General Shepherd in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Task Force 141 has been disbanded when its leader, John Price, goes on the run.
"There’s a growing conflict between the remnants of 141, as Ghost questions Price's unlawful methods. Was Price right to take the law into his own hands, or has he betrayed everything he once stood for? Regardless, there’s a target on his back as Ghost and Gaz are tasked to capture or kill their former captain.
“In parallel with the Korean invasion and the ongoing manhunt for Price lies an even greater threat. An unknown weapon of war is being delivered to a dangerous enemy known only as The Archer. What’s the weapon capable of, and what are the Archer’s motives in acquiring it?"
Mikkelsen plays The Archer, and Infinity Ward isn’t revealing much about him yet. Casting Mikkelsen is enough to make the character interesting, though.
The actor has made a career out of playing intimidating and complicated characters in projects including Casino Royale, Hannibal, Doctor Strange, Rogue One, and the Fantastic Beasts franchise. He also has video game experience with his memorable role in Death Stranding.
The new campaign footage points to another cinematic action-heavy adventure filled with the large-scale combat and major set pieces associated with Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare games. Having Price hunted by Ghost and Gaz should also give the story some extra tension between the explosions.
Based on previous entries, the Modern Warfare 4 campaign will probably clock in at around six hours, while multiplayer will remain the main attraction for many players. Infinity Ward has managed to squeeze a lot of memorable action into those relatively short campaigns, and this one has an intriguing conflict to work with.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Players who pre-order the Standard Digital Edition or Vault Edition will get Campaign Early Access starting October 16.
