CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD To Go Through Extensive Reshoots After Negative Test Scores

Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World will reportedly go through some extensive reshoots that will involve several major scenes. This information comes from The Hot Mic‘s Jeff Sneider, who says that the reshoots are coming after negative test screening scores.

The reshoots are said to be scheduled for January to May 2024 and it was also reported that three “major” sequences from the initial filming are supposedly being cut from the film.

Reshooting and retooling films isn’t anything new with big tentpole films, especially with Marvel. They have always been notorious for making major changes to the film and TV projects that they develop. While I’m sure they were frustrated with the negative test scores, going back and reworking their movies like this is normal for them.

Anthony Mackie is back in the role of Sam Wilson, who is now Captain America, and he’s joined by Harrison Ford as Thaddeus Ross, who is the president of the United States in the story.

Kevin Feige previously talked about the dynamic between the characters Wilson and Ross, saying: “There's a dynamic between President Ross and Sam Wilson. They have a history together, but in this film, we'll be seeing the dynamic between Captain America and the president of the United States in a way that is just incredible.”

Mackie previously discussed the role of Captain America and how his character is different from Steve Rogers and the rest of the superheroes in the MCU. He explained:

"Sam is the only character without superpowers. He's just a regular dude hanging out with a bunch of weirdos. Being from New Orleans, I've been in a few fights. And heart and charisma never helped me in a fight. That usually just got me beat up. So that might cause an issue when you go fight somebody like Thanos.

"So, I think with him, he has to come to the stage with a very different understanding of what it is to be a good guy or be a bad guy and what are the decisions that make you toe that line in the way that you did. So, I just see him as more of a humane Cap as opposed to a distinctive judge Cap -- [a] Cap of judgment, where this is right and this is wrong. There are decisions that make you choose right or wrong."

Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox) is directing the film from a script penned by Dalan Musson and Malcolm Spellman, both of whom wrote for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Spellman will produce with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

The movie was also recently given a new release date of February 14th, 2025.
