Channing Tatum Says AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Will “Blow People’s Minds” While Dodging Deadpool Questions
It’s been a wild ride for Channing Tatum and his dream of playing Gambit. His solo Gambit film was trapped in development hell for years, bouncing between rewrites and directors until the Disney/Fox merger officially killed it. For a while, it looked like his chance to play the Cajun mutant had completely vanished.
That all changed when Deadpool & Wolverine gave Tatum the perfect opportunity to finally bring Remy LeBeau to life. Thanks to his longtime friend Ryan Reynolds, Gambit made his long-awaited debut in the MCU, and fans went crazy when the movie’s ending teased his return.
Now, Tatum’s Gambit is set to fight alongside the X-Men in next year’s Avengers: Doomsday. Tatum recently opened up about his experience filming Marvel’s upcoming epic, and it sounds like he was absolutely floored by what he saw on set.
"When I say a huge movie, it’s like an understatement. I don’t have a word big enough. I’m not good enough with words to explain how big this movie will be. It’s going to blow people’s minds."
While the scope of his role is still under wraps, it’s clear the actor is hyped about what’s coming. But naturally, the big question fans want answered is whether Reynolds will also return as Deadpool in Avengers: Doomsday. When asked, Tatum played coy.
"I think he’s busy enough. He’s got like 15,000 jobs."
The trades have reported Deadpool’s involvement, but Tatum isn’t spilling anything. What he did share, however, was just how much he appreciates Reynolds for making Gambit’s MCU journey possible.
"My buddy Ryan, I’ll be forever [grateful]. If his kids ever needed a kidney, I’d give it. He takes care of his people, and I’ll always be there for him."
Reynolds himself has denied being part of Avengers: Doomsday, even claiming he hasn’t stepped foot on the film’s UK set. That might be true for now, but Marvel has been known to keep surprises under wraps.
If Wade Wilson really does show up in the film, it would be the kind of crowd-pleasing moment fans live for.
With Gambit finally on the battlefield and Tatum hyping up the scale of Avengers: Doomsday, the MCU looks like it’s gearing up for something truly epic.
