Chaotic Trailer for THE DRAMA Sees Zendaya and Robert Pattinson’s Wedding Spiral Out of Control
A24 has unveiled the trailer for The Drama, a dark uncomfortable comedy that turns a wedding countdown into an emotional demolition derby.
Starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, the film teases a romance that looks perfect on the surface and completely doomed underneath, thanks to a deep, dark secret that refuses to stay buried.
Directed by Kristoffer Borgli, the film follows Emma Harwood (Zendaya) and Charlie Thompson (Pattinson), a couple whose carefully planned wedding begins to collapse in the final days before they’re supposed to say “I do.”
What starts as pre-wedding stress quickly mutates into something far messier, forcing both characters to confront truths that threaten to unravel their relationship entirely.
Emma is a Louisiana native working at Mission Books, armed with a Boston University English degree and a calm exterior that doesn’t tell the whole story. Charlie is a British museum director with a Tufts University doctorate in art history, currently running the Cambridge Art Museum.
These oddly specific details weren’t revealed in the trailer itself but through a fictional engagement announcement A24 placed in the Boston Globe.
Joining Zendaya and Pattinson is a strong supporting cast that includes Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, and Hailey Gates, with Zoë Winters from Succession showing up as a wedding photographer who appears to have a front-row seat to the chaos.
Borgli clearly enjoys sitting in discomfort, and the trailer suggests this wedding is less about romance and more about emotional exposure.
For Borgli, The Drama marks his return to A24 following Dream Scenario, the 2023 dark comedy that earned Nicolas Cage a Golden Globe nomination. This new film is Borgli’s fourth as a director and once again leans hard into social anxiety, awkward humor, and relationships cracking under pressure.
Producers include Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, and Tyler Campellone.
The movie is also the first of three upcoming collaborations between Zendaya and Pattinson. The duo will reunite for The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan, arriving July 17 from Universal Pictures.
They’ll then cross paths again in Dune: Part Three under Denis Villeneuve, set for a December 18 release from Warner Bros. Watching these two move from A24 relationship chaos to epic sci-fi spectacle should be a fun ride.
The Drama opens in theaters on April 3, and it looks like a messy, uncomfortable, funny in that laugh-because-you’re-cringing way, and very much in A24’s wheelhouse.
