Charlie Cox Knew DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Was Ending After Season 3: "We Had a Good Sense"

Daredevil is getting hit with the three-season curse all over again, but this time Charlie Cox knew the end was coming. The actor recently revealed that he and the team behind Marvel's Daredevil: Born Again had a pretty good idea that the Disney+ series would be wrapping up after its third season.

While the news caught fans off guard when reports surfaced last month, Cox explained that things were handled differently this time around.

Speaking with GamesRadar+ at New York Comic Con, Cox said, "[There was] a little bit more planning and emotional support. We knew about it [this time]. We had a good sense [it was going to be canceled]."

That's a pretty big difference from what happened with Netflix's original Daredevil series, which was abruptly canceled after three seasons despite its popularity. Now, with Born Again meeting the same fate, Matt Murdock has somehow managed to get two separate three-season runs cut short.

There have also been reports suggesting that the Born Again Season 3 finale has been adjusted to give the story a more definitive ending rather than leaving fans hanging.

The good news is that Marvel is bringing back some familiar faces before the series concludes, giving fans a mini-Defenders reunion that's been a long time coming.

Krysten Ritter is returning as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter is back as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones is reprising his role as Danny Rand, bringing the street-level Marvel heroes back together.

Jones recently spoke about what makes these characters work so well together and why he'd love to see Marvel explore their relationships even further.

"I've never been a part of a cast where the chemistry is just so innate, not only with the actors but also the way the characters interact with each other. It's special. The Defenders are special.”

He continued, "The more they can flesh that out, the more the fans are gonna be happy because the fans really want it. Especially between me and Mike and Heroes for Hire. Something like that, I know people are desperate for. We'll get a glimpse of that maybe in season 3."

Fans have wanted to see Luke Cage and Iron Fist team up again for years, and Born Again will give them another opportunity to work together.

As for Cox, he's not ready to say goodbye to Matt Murdock just yet. Even with Born Again coming to an end, the actor remains open to playing Daredevil in future Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.

That's encouraging because there's still plenty Marvel could do with the character, especially now that Daredevil is part of the larger MCU.

It's disappointing that Daredevil: Born Again appears to be ending after just three seasons, but at least the creative team has had an opportunity to plan for it. Hopefully, that means fans will get a satisfying conclusion while leaving the door open for Matt Murdock and the Defenders to return down the road.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in March 2027.
