Charlie Cox on The Connection Between DAREDEVIL and TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES - Says a Crossover Would Be Cool
For those of you who don’t know, there is a connection between Daredevil and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Yes, they do exist in completely different universes, but Daredevil was a huge inspiration for Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s Ninja Turtles and how they came to exist.
During a panel at FanExpo Dallas, Daredevil star Charlie Cox was asked if he was aware of the connection between Daredevil and the Ninja Turtles, and the actor proceeded to let his geek flag fly, and responded:
"Apparently, the creators of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were big Daredevil fans of the comic. And so in Daredevil, the toxic spillage that blinded Matt Murdock in his origin story, it then went into the sewers, and it created the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Which is why in Daredevil, we have Stick, and then the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, they have Splinter. And then there's the Hand and the Foot. Anyway, I like that. I love that stuff. It's pretty cool."
I love that Cox is aware of this because there are a lot of people that aren’t! The TMNT comics were much darker than all of the adaptations that we’ve seen made over the years. While I’ve enjoyed some of those adaptations, and I’m excited for the upcoming film, one day I would like to see an adaptation that is a lot closer to what the original comic books are.
The big question is, could we ever see a Daredevil and TMNT crossover!? I guess it’s possible, but not likely. Cox addressed the possibility, saying:
"So you can't really answer that. Can I tell you why? Because every time you answer that question so publicly, it then becomes a news story, and then as soon as it becomes a news story, you can't do it. So I'm really hesitant to do that. What will never happen, which would be really cool – I can say this – it'd be really cool if the Ninja Turtles showed up in Daredevil."
Yeah, it would be pretty awesome if the Ninja Turtles crossover with Daredevil, but that’s something that’s not going to happen in any official capacity, it would have to be a fan-made project.
