Charlie Cox Teases DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Season 3’s Brutal Prison Story and Teases a Fight Unlike Anything We’ve Seen
Matt Murdock has taken some brutal beatings over the years, but Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 is putting him in a situation where his fists might be the least of his problems.
Charlie Cox has revealed that Matt is heading to prison, where he'll be surrounded by people he helped put behind bars. If that wasn't bad enough, the actor is also teasing a crazy new fight sequence unlike anything we've seen from Daredevil before.
During New York Comic Con, Cox shared some interesting details about what's coming for the Man Without Fear, including a "new look" for Matt Murdock that's tied directly to his time behind bars.
According to Cox, Matt will spend a significant portion of Season 3 in prison, and it's going to be a pretty miserable experience for the vigilante.
“That environment is a very hostile one for someone like him,” Cox explained, describing the experience as “very confronting” for the character.
Matt has spent years putting criminals away, both as a lawyer and as Daredevil. Now he's trapped in a place filled with people who would probably love nothing more than to get their hands on him. As Cox pointed out, Matt finds himself “with a bunch of people that he helped put away.”
That's a pretty rough situation for someone who has made a career out of taking down criminals. Matt can certainly handle himself in a fight, but being locked inside a prison full of enemies presents an entirely different challenge.
His greatest strength has always been his commitment to justice, but now that same commitment has landed him in a place where plenty of people have good reasons to hate him.
What makes this storyline particularly interesting, though, is how it challenges Matt's faith in the legal system. Cox explained that Matt gets “a really good look at the penal system from the other side and the failing of it.”
For a guy who has dedicated his life to fighting for justice, experiencing the failures of the prison system firsthand could be just as devastating as anything his enemies throw at him. Cox described this part of Matt's journey as “also very confronting” for him.
Then there's the action. Cox teased a fight sequence unlike anything fans have seen before, although he wasn't willing to reveal exactly what makes it so different. But, in the trailer we saw at NYCC, we did get a tease of a savage prison brawl where Daredevil is taking on a ton of inmates who want to kill him.
A prison environment definitly gives the creative team an opportunity to get especially brutal with the choreography. Matt won't have the freedom to move through Hell's Kitchen like he normally does, and depending on the circumstances, he might not have access to his usual Daredevil gear.
Whatever the writers have planned, Cox sounds excited about where they're taking the character. While he kept the bigger story details to himself, he promised there's “a lot of juicy stuff.”
Between Matt facing the consequences of his past, confronting the failures of the justice system, and fighting to survive behind bars, Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 sounds like it's going to put the hero through hell.
Matt Murdock has always been willing to suffer for what he believes in. This time, he may have to question whether the system he's spent his life defending deserves that loyalty.
I'm especially curious to see what kind of prison fight could possibly top some of the incredible action we've already seen from Daredevil. That's a pretty high bar, and I'm hoping they pull it off.
