Chilling New Trailer For 28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE
Sony Pictures has released a fresh new trailer for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, the next chapter in the revitalized zombie saga. Shot back to back with Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s earlier 2024 film, this follow up shifts the story into even stranger, darker territory.
The new trailer brings plenty of intensity and raises even more questions about where this world is heading.
This sequel comes from director Nia DaCosta, working once again from a screenplay by Garland, and the footage shows a world where the infected are no longer the main danger. The focus is now on the twisted behavior of survivors and the eerie mystery surrounding the Bone Temple itself.
The story picks up with Ralph Fiennes returning as Dr. Kelson. His character is now entangled in a relationship that appears to have earth shaking implications.
Meanwhile, Spike, played by Alfie Williams, is is stuck in a hellish situation with Jimmy Crystal, who he ran into at the end of the previous film. The trailer suggests that whatever happened between them has festered into something far worse.
The description reads: “Fear is the new faith! Expanding upon the world created by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland in 28 Years Later but turning that world on its head Nia DaCosta directs The Bone Temple.
“In a continuation of the epic story, Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) finds himself in a shocking new relationship with consequences that could change the world as they know it and Spike's (Alfie Williams) encounter with Jimmy Crystal (Jack O'Connell) becomes a nightmare he can't escape.
“In the world of The Bone Temple, the infected are no longer the greatest threat to survival the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and much more terrifying.”
DaCosta has been busy in recent years with projects like Little Woods, Candyman, The Marvels, and this year’s Hedda. Her style looks like a strong match for the grim tension of the 28 Years Later universe, and this next story in the franchise is sure to push it into unsettling and unpredictable directions.
The trailer serves up plenty of eerie atmosphere and character drama that makes the wait for January feel even longer. Alongside Fiennes and Williams, the film stars Jack O’Connell, Erin Kellyman, and Chi Lewis-Parry.
Sony Pictures will release 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple in theaters on January 16, 2026.
