Chris Pine Explains Why He Loves DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: HONOR AMONG THIEVES So Much
I would love nothing more than to see Dungeons & Dragon: Honor Among Thieves be a big success so that we could see more of these Dungeons & Dragons movies get made. I’ve already had the opportunity to see it, and I had a blast watching it! The movie is a great popcorn flick that put a big smile on my face. It’s a big epic fantasy adventure film that makes you feel good and happy! There’s nothing wrong with that!
During a recent interview with Variety, the film’s star Chris Pine talked about the movie and explained why he loves it so much. One of the things he makes clear is that this movie is the ultimate escape from the crappy world that we live in. He said:
“I’ve seen this film probably more than I’ve seen many of my other films because I love watching it with an audience. To come out and see audience’s faces, you see exactly what cinema should do, which is people are, like, alive. They want to talk about it. They’re in a great mood. The world is so shitty so why not use this vehicle — big budget cinema — to make people feel better.”
Heck yeah! And that’s exactly what this movie delivers! Writers and directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley pulled off something that will truly entertain audiences if they go to the theaters to watch it. Pine went on to explain how he wanted to give something genuine to audiences:
“There’s like a bit of the swashbuckler to this guy in this world, which I love. I’m an ‘80s baby. So all of my references were ‘80s. So this movie to me was like ‘Goonies,’ ‘NeverEnding Story,’ it was a bit of ‘Indiana Jones.’ Fast forward, and maybe it’s a bit of ‘Pirates.’ All kind of mashed together with his big heart. That really more than anything is what I loved about it. I felt like it was just really honest, it was sweet. And I think sweet has gotten a bad rap. Everything’s got to be really cool nowadays, and I’m really over cool. I think cool is super boring. I want something that’s genuine.”
Which, again, I think the creative team effectively pulled off. Pine went on to talk about the stunts in the film, and how he didn’t really have to do any:
“I don’t do any stunts in this film. Nothing. I have no action. All I do is run. Run away from shit. All these poor schmucks had to do all this martial arts training on the weekends and I was taking walks on the beach. I was reading, caught up on my Netflix. I had a great time.”
In the film, “A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure.”
The movie also stars Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Chloe Coleman, Daisy Head, and Hugh Grant. It’s set to hit theaters on March 31st, 2023!
