Chris Pratt Says He’s Got a “F—ing Great” Plan to Bring Star-Lord Back to the MCU

Chris Pratt is still thinking about Star-Lord, and it sounds like he’s got something special in mind for the character’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While making the rounds for his new film Mercy, Pratt stopped by the Happy Sad Confused podcast and opened up about his ongoing conversations with Marvel.

His last appearance as Peter Quill came in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 back in 2023, which famously promised in its closing moments that Star-Lord would return. According to Pratt, he already knows how that return should happen, and he’s feeling pretty confident about it.

“I’m happy to do anything they want me to do and will,” Pratt said about Marvel. “And also, I personally have a really strong vision of what I would want him to do. And I think it’s f*cking great.”

That idea isn’t just living in his head. Pratt confirmed that he’s already shared it with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, and he sees it as part of the studio’s bigger picture rather than a one off appearance.

“Yep. And I think that, you know, I’m down to contribute any way I can to them setting up the next 10 years of storytelling, you know? And also, I have a pretty strong idea of how I think I could contribute to that.”

So far, there’s been no official word on when Star-Lord might show up again. Pratt wasn’t part of the cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday, and Marvel has stayed quiet about his involvement in Avengers: Secret Wars. We know Star-Lord’s will return, though!

Of course, any conversation about Star-Lord eventually circles back to James Gunn, who directed all three Guardians films before jumping ship to lead DC Studios. Gunn is currently deep into shaping DC’s future with the Superman follow-up film Man of Tomorrow.

“In a dream world, it would be somehow James,” Pratt said of who he’d want to direct another Star-Lord project. “But I don’t think that’s likely to happen. So I’d have to think about who would be the right director. There are amazing directors out there.”

Despite working on opposite sides of the superhero fence, Pratt and Gunn clearly keep in touch. Pratt revealed that he recently sent Gunn a joking pitch for an entirely different role, complete with a Photoshop job of himself wearing a Batman mask.

The idea was tied to DC’s upcoming The Brave and the Bold, which will introduce Batman into Gunn’s new DC Universe.

“I did it in photoshop and [James] just said, ‘Haha,’” Pratt said. “It’s safe to say I am not going to be Batman.”

Star-Lord or Dark Knight, it’s obvious Pratt still has plenty of creative energy when it comes to superhero stories. Whether Marvel decides to run with his “f*cking great” idea remains to be seen, but fans can at least take comfort in knowing that Peter Quill’s story isn’t finished yet.
