COBRA KAI Creators Tease "Ramped Up" Final Episodes and the Future of the Franchise
We are in the middle of Cobra Kai’s 15-episode final season, and we’re currently waiting for Season 6 Part 2, which will consist of five more episodes.
During a recent interview with io9, creators Jon Hurwitz, Josh Heald, and Hayden Schlossberg talked about various aspects of the show including what we can expect from the final episodes and the future of the franchise after this show comes to an end.
When asked about what fans can expect from the final five episodes of the show, Heald teased: “Wow. We are enormously proud of what we pulled off in the final five.
“It is going to deliver upon every cliffhanger that we’ve set up. And it is going to go to some places that you don’t expect. I’ll just say, having watched the final five numerous times, it ramps up and then picks up a speed, a pace, a momentum that I don’t think we’ve ever done… particularly the last three.
“I’ll just say prepare yourselves. Hydrate. Because you’re gonna want to watch all five probably in one sitting. It’s gonna be hard to put down.”
So, that’s exciting to hear! I can’t wait to see how this show comes to a close and where these characters will end up.
When asked about the future of the franchise and what is coming after Cobra Kai end, Heald said: “There’s always a possibility. Look, you can you can start checking off the list of things we haven’t done leading up to the last five and we haven’t done that yet.
“So, that that’s a possibility. And there are other possibilities. I will say everything we do is born out of an intent and everything we do is born out of a love for this story and this world and this universe.
“And, you know, while we’re sunsetting this series, we hope we’re not sunsetting the universe. We have a lot of plans for how we’re continuing that.
“So if you don’t see something in the final five episodes that you’ve really been crossing your fingers and hoping for, just rest assured it’s something that we’re hoping to have an opportunity to revisit in the future as well.”
Schlossberg added: “I’m not sure if there’s going to be any updates before the final five episodes other than we’re always teasing that we’re thinking and working on things and that includes working with [Karate Kid writer and creator] Robert Mark Kamen on stuff.
“We just love this world and it is bittersweet for us to have to finish the show so there’s this creative urge to continue it in some fashion, but nothing official to say.
Heald then concluded, saying: I would hope in the next few months there’ll be something official to share and talk about, but you know as of yet there’s not.”
One thing we know is coming is the new Karate Kid: Legends movie with Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan, but the creators of Cobra Kai apparently aren’t really involved with that.
While I’m looking forward to the movie, I’m much more interested in something that continues the story of Johnny Lawrence. So, I hope there’s a future there.
