Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) has been working on a feature film adaptation of Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid for a long time. This is a passion project for the director and I hope that one day he actually gets to make it.

He’s been working on getting this movie made since 2014 and he recently shared some concept art that has been created for it that I think the fans are going to love. It’s pretty damn cool! It also started with this first initial Tweet from a couple of days ago teasing that something was coming.

The video includes video game voices actors David Hayter, Paul Eiding and Christopher Randolph who reprise their roles as Solid Snake, Colonel Roy Campbell, and Hal Emmerich a.k.a. Otacon.

That was followed by this tweet featuring concept art of Metal Gear REX, which is the big-ass walking tank from the games. There’s also a video tease that features some abstract motion-graphics concept art featuring Gray Fox after his transformation into Cyborg Ninja. As you’ll see he’s wearing a powered armor exoskeleton with his high-frequency blade strapped to his back.

The last update for the project came a few months ago whne the director revealed that he had just turned in a new draft of the script. He also said that he was looking to approach actor Oscar Isaac for the lead role, and he has expressed interest in playing Solid Snake.

When previously talking about the adaptation, Vogt-Roberts said that he is shooting for an R-rating. He wants to bring the full-on insanity of Hideo Kojima's game to the film.

"It’s about doing it for a price so you can make the riskier, balls-to-the-wall, Kojima-san version of it."

The director also previously talked about the script that he co-wrote with Derek Connolly (Jurassic World) and he loves the work he’s done on it:

"Even if I wasn’t involved in this movie I would read that script and say, ‘Holy shit.' It represents a different approach to a video game movie. It represents a different approach to how a three-act structure is put on screen.”

Vogt-Roberts also explained that he’s figured out a way to make the story work as a feature film, saying:

"The thing about Metal Gear is it’s intentionally sprawling and it’s intentionally dense. It’d be super easy to do one sliver of it or do too much at once. And we’ve spent the last little bit really trying to figure out, to me, the most Kojima-san inspired way to tackle as much of that story through a device that I think allows you to tap in…how to put this without spoiling it?…regardless, we have a device that I think allows us to respect the breadth of the franchise, respect the sprawling nature of the franchise, respect the somewhat convoluted nature of the franchise at times. But to still show you the mirrors. What I mean by that is all those timelines fundamentally exist because they show the repetition of war throughout time. They show the repetition and the cycle of pain throughout time. So it ’s almost impossible to tell just one story now. You need the full throughline of what this game is about."

I really like what Vogt-Robert has said about this adaptation and it’s the version that I hope we see make it to the big screen one day. What do you think about how the director is looking to handle the film? What do you think of the concept art?!
