CRYSTAL LAKE Season 2 Could Bring Back One of Jason Voorhees’ Most Dangerous Enemies
The upcoming future of Crystal Lake could bring another familiar face from the Friday the 13th franchise into the story, and it's someone who has a pretty serious history with Jason Voorhees.
Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane already has ideas for a potential second season of the horror series, including the introduction of Tommy Jarvis, one of the few characters who managed to survive Jason's murderous rampages and live to fight him again.
While Crystal Lake has plenty of its own stories to explore, Kane is interested in bringing more of the franchise's history into the series, and the Jarvis family could play a major part in that.
Tommy Jarvis first appeared in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, where he was played by Corey Feldman. A young horror enthusiast with a talent for special makeup effects, Tommy found himself facing Jason when the masked killer targeted his family.
The film introduced Tommy alongside his mother Tracy, played by Joan Freeman, and his older sister Trish, played by Kimberly Beck.
Tommy eventually returned in Friday the 13th: A New Beginning and Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, played by John Shepherd and Thom Mathews, respectively.
Across those films, Tommy evolved from a traumatized survivor into one of Jason's most determined enemies. He's essentially the franchise's answer to Dr. Loomis from Halloween, which makes him a particularly interesting character to bring into Crystal Lake.
Speaking about his plans for Season 2, Kane suggested that Tommy's family may have a much longer history with Crystal Lake than the movies ever explored.
"...in terms of how I'd integrate the other movies, there's some Jarvis lore out there that I think needs integrating into the show too. The Jarvises, I think, were a family that spent more time at Crystal Lake than we realized.
“They rented that cabin. They might've been coming there for years before Tommy had his encounter with Jason. So I think there's a lot to do there."
That's an interesting direction to explore, especially since the Jarvis family was already familiar with the area when audiences first met them.
Rather than simply introducing Tommy as another future victim of Jason, the series could establish his family as longtime visitors to Crystal Lake and explore their connections to the town years before the events of The Final Chapter.
Of course, Tommy isn't the only character Kane wants to spend more time with. The showrunner also has plans to expand the stories of several established residents, including Dorf, Rita, and Ralph, while continuing to explore Pamela Voorhees and her relationship with Jason.
Kane explained: "I think it's a combination of building a story based on where I want it to go, where I want the character to go. I would want to dig deeper into some of the characters in the town. I really love Dorf and Rita. I really love Ralph.
“I want to learn more about them and see how they integrate. Obviously, we know certain things at the end of the season. We know certain things are out there conclusively. We know Pam does. So yeah, I sort of know where I want to take it in season 2."
One of the biggest developments heading into a possible second season involves Pamela Voorhees, played by Linda Cardellini, discovering that her son Jason, played by Callum Vinson, is still alive and living in the woods surrounding Camp Crystal Lake.
That revelation creates some fascinating possibilities for the show's future, particularly when considering Pamela's actions in the original 1980 Friday the 13th.
In that film, Pamela's killing spree is fueled by her belief that Jason drowned because the camp counselors weren't paying attention. If she already knows her son survived, the series has some explaining to do before reaching those events.
Then again, Pamela's relationship with reality has never exactly been healthy, so there's plenty of room for Kane and his writers to explore how her story eventually connects to the original movie.
What's especially cool about the potential introduction of Tommy Jarvis is that Crystal Lake wouldn't necessarily have to rush toward his eventual confrontation with Jason. Establishing the Jarvis family early could give their history with the Voorhees family more significance when those two worlds finally collide.
For now, Kane's Season 2 ideas aren’t confirmed storylines, but bringing Tommy Jarvis into the series would be a great way to connect Crystal Lake to one of the most memorable chapters in the Friday the 13th franchise.
There's a lot of potential here, and I'd love to see Tommy and his family get more attention. He's one of the franchise's most important characters outside the Voorhees family, and exploring his life before Jason turned it into a nightmare could make for some great horror television.
