Dafne Keen Responds to Fan Push for Her to Become the MCU’s Wolverine
The conversation around Wolverine’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues, and one name keeps coming up.... Dafne Keen.
After leaving a serious impression as Laura, aka X-23, fans are openly calling for her to take over the mantle of Wolverine once the multiverse dust settles. Now, Keen has finally weighed in, and her response only adds fuel to the discussion.
Keen first tore into pop culture as Laura in Logan back in 2017, starring opposite Hugh Jackman in what many believed was the definitive farewell to his version of Wolverine.
Fast forward to 2024 and she returned in Deadpool & Wolverine, reminding everyone why Laura instantly connected with audiences in the first place. With Marvel Studios actively folding characters from past franchises into the MCU ahead of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, fans have started to wonder if Laura could stick around for good.
Some have gone even further, suggesting she should become the MCU’s primary Wolverine.
While promoting her new film Whistle, Keen was asked by ComicBookMovie about the growing fan support for her returning as X-23 in a long-term MCU role. She didn’t tease any deals or future plans, but her reaction was genuine and emotional.
“It means so much to [her],” Keen said, adding that she’s “very happy anytime anyone wants to speak about it.”
That’s as far as she went, but it says a lot. There’s clear affection for the character and real appreciation for the fans who’ve kept Laura at the center of the Wolverine conversation. Even without confirmation, it’s hard not to read that as someone who’d happily slide the claws back on if Marvel came calling.
What really makes this idea click is how naturally it fits. Keen might have been young when she debuted in Logan, but her recent return proved she can absolutely deliver the raw intensity and physical brutality associated with Wolverine.
Fans aren’t just nostalgic for her performance. They genuinely want to see Laura explored further, especially as the MCU prepares for a mutant-focused future.
Replacing Hugh Jackman outright as Logan is a near-impossible task. His run started in 2000 and shaped the character for an entire generation. Having Laura step into the Wolverine role avoids that problem entirely. Logan gets to remain iconic, retired with respect, while his legacy continues through his daughter. It feels earned instead of forced.
There’s also solid comic book logic behind it. In Marvel Comics, Laura eventually takes on the Wolverine identity following Secret Wars. With the MCU building directly toward its own version of that storyline, the timing couldn’t be better.
It gives Marvel a smart path forward for recasting Wolverine without erasing what came before, and it gives Keen a role she’s already proven she owns.
Jackman isn’t immortal, even if Wolverine is supposed to be. As Marvel looks beyond the Multiverse Saga and toward a full X-Men reboot, letting Dafne Keen’s Laura become the MCU’s Wolverine makes sense creatively and practically.
More importantly, it’s exactly what a lot of fans want, and judging by Keen’s response, she’s ready and willing to take it on.
