Hugh Jackman Hints Wolverine May Not Be Done as AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY and SECRET WARS Approach
Hugh Jackman is once again fueling Marvel speculation, and this time it happened right in the middle of a daytime talk show appearance. While promoting his upcoming film Song Sung Blue, the actor found himself back in familiar territory talking about Wolverine, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and whether the door is really closed on the character as the franchise heads toward Avengers: Doomsday and beyond.
Jackman last suited up as Logan in Deadpool & Wolverine, the 2024 blockbuster that officially folded both characters into the MCU. Since then, he’s been asked repeatedly if that appearance was a one-time thing or the beginning of something bigger. His most recent comments suggest the answer might not be as simple as fans would like.
While appearing on The View, Jackman was joined by his co-star Kate Hudson to promote his new movie. The conversation quickly pivoted to Marvel when host Sunny Hostin brought up something Jackman previously said to Cynthia Erivo during Variety and CNN’s Actors on Actors. Hostin asked if that comment was meant as a hint about his involvement in Avengers: Doomsday.
“That’s not a clue,” Jackman replied.
The actor then leaned into the moment, covering his face and adding, “Watch my face. Try to work this out. No.”
Despite the playful deflection, Jackman didn’t shut the door entirely. Reflecting on his mindset after Logan’s emotional sendoff years ago, he explained how certain things can change when the timing feels right.
“For five years, I was like, ‘I’m done.’ And Ryan Reynolds would ring me a lot like, ‘Come on!’ I’m like, ‘No,’” Jackman elaborated. “And then I rang him one day and said, ‘I’m in. And so I go with this — and that’s what my gut says — it’s not done. “
After playing Wolverine for roughly 25 years, Jackman knows the character better than anyone, and his instincts have clearly played a role in his past returns. Still, he made it clear that his feelings don’t necessarily line up with Marvel Studios’ plans.
“But that’s just me! Marvel might have different ideas.”
With Doomsday shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases of next year and already featuring an enormous ensemble, the speculation around Wolverine’s involvement isn’t slowing down. The presence of other X-Men actors only adds fuel to the fire, especially with Doomsday and Secret Wars positioned as major crossover events.
Jackman might not be confirming anything outright, but his comments suggest the story of Wolverine in the MCU isn’t as finished as it once seemed. I’m sure that fan will see Wolverine’s claws pop alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes at some point!
