Damson Idris Reportedly Up for the Role of John Stewart in DC's LANTERNS Series
Earlier this week, it was announced that Kyle Chandler (Bloodline, Catch 22, Friday Night Lights) is in talks to take on the role of Green Lantern Hal Jordan in DC Studios’ upcoming HBO series Lanterns. We now know one actor who is reportedly up for the role of John Stewart.
According to MTTSH, Damson Idris (33) is one of five actors that is being considered for the role of John Stewart.
Idris is a British actor, who is best known for playing the lead in John Singleton's crime drama, Snowfall, which debuted on FX in 2017 and ended in 2023 after six seasons. He also played the co-lead in Netflix's 2021 sci-fi action film, Outside the Wire.
The series will focus on new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, “two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
The project is being developed by Ozark’s Chris Mundy, Watchmen‘s Damon Lindelof, and comic book writer Tom King.
When talking about the eight-episode series DC Studios co-Chairmen and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, said: “John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with Superman.”
Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner, who will make his debut in Gunn's Superman reboot, is expected to have a supporting role in the series.
Stephen Williams (Lost, Watchmen, Westworld) is reportedly in talks to direct the pilot and production on Lanterns is currently set to commence in early 2025 in the United Kingdom.
