Dan Harmon Working on Script For Live-Action ONE PUNCH MAN Movie
Sony Pictures has been developing a live-action film adaptation of the hit manga and anime One Punch Man. Fast & Furious franchise director Justin Lin is set to helm the film, and today we’ve learned that there’s a new writer attached.
Community and Rick & Morty creator Dan Harmon has recently joined the project to work on the script for the film. He is joined by Rick and Morty co-executive producer Heather Anne Campbell.
This is a great and exciting addition to the creative team! The initial draft of the script for the film was written by Venom co-writers Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. That was back in 2022, and the film was supposed to start shooting by the end of that year. But, that obviously didn’t happen.
The project is moving forward again, though, with Harmon and Campbell. Lin is also still attached to direct and Avi Arad and Ari Arad of Arad Productions (Spider-Man franchise, Iron Man, X-Men franchise, Venom) are producing the film.
One Punch Man is an action comedy that was created by Japanese artist ONE, and it tells the story of Saitama, a superhero who can defeat any opponent with a single punch, leading him to become bored and disillusioned with his own strength.
The story is set in a world filled with heroes and monsters, where Saitama's unique problem is his ability to effortlessly win battles, which saps the excitement from his life.
Despite his overwhelming power, Saitama struggles to gain recognition and respect in the hero community.
I love One Punch Man and I’ve been curious to see how this live-action adaptation will turn out. There’s a strong creative team involved right now and I hope that they capture the awesome insanity of these characters and this story!
The manga follows Saitama, a superhero powerful enough to end any opponent with – you guessed it – one punch, in a world terrorized by supervillains and monsters. But, that makes winning battles fairly boring, and he ends up mentoring a vengeful cyborg named Genos.
