DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Drops a Miles Morales Tease, But What Does It Mean?
Marvel fans are always keeping their eyes peeled for easter eggs in the films and TV shows that are released, and Daredevil: Born Again just delivered one that could hint at the existence of Miles Morales in the MCU.
While it's far from a confirmation that we’ll see the beloved Spider-Man swinging through Hell’s Kitchen anytime soon, it’s enough to get fans talking and speculating.
In Episode 3, “The Hollow of His Hand”, Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock steps into the courtroom to defend Kamar de los Reyes’ Hector Ayala, a.k.a. White Tiger.
During his defense, Murdock lists the people Ayala has saved as White Tiger, and among the named listed? “Officer Morales.” That’s a name that should ring a bell, especially for those familiar with Miles’ story.
Jefferson Morales, Miles’ father, has traditionally been portrayed as a SHIELD agent in Marvel Comics. However, in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Insomniac’s Spider-Man video games, he’s depicted as a police officer.
This reference in Daredevil: Born Again could be a nod to that version of the character, placing him in the same universe as Matt Murdock.
Sure, this could this just be a coincidence, but when it comes to the MCU, nothing is usually accidental. He originally went by “Davis” in the comics but later adopted his wife’s surname, Morales, as established in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #22 in 2021.
That’s also the name Miles himself uses for his father in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, where he calls him “Officer Morales.”
Of course, any direct Miles Morales appearance in the MCU would still require Sony’s blessing. As Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ head of TV, streaming, and animation, confirmed last month, Sony retains the long-term TV rights to Spider-Man.
That means neither Miles nor Peter Parker’s Spider-Man can just swing into Daredevil: Born Again without Sony signing off on it.
So, is this a sign that the MCU is laying the groundwork for Miles? Maybe. At the very least, it acknowledges that the Morales family exists in this world. Whether that eventually leads to a live-action debut remains to be seen.
