Why Spider-Man Won’t Be Swinging Into DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN or Any Other Disney+ Series

With Daredevil: Born Again on the horizon, fans are naturally speculating about potential MCU crossovers. One thing a lot of fans are wondering is if we will see Spider-Man and Daredevil share the screen again after their brief interaction in Spider-Man: No Way Home?

Unfortunately, recent comments from Marvel’s Brad Winderbaum suggest that the chances of Spider-Man appearing in any Disney+ series is slim to none. So, if these characters do team up, it’ll have to be a in a movie.

In a conversation with Phase Zero: A Film & TV Podcast, Winderbaum shed some light on why Spidey likely won’t be making an appearance in Born Again.

“You know I’m not sure exactly what the rules are, but I think [Sony] have long-form television rights, I don’t know if that means he can show up. You can do like 30-minute animation I think.”

That statement confirms that the legalities surrounding Spider-Man’s live-action appearances are just complicated. While Marvel Studios has been able to feature the character in films thanks to their deal with Sony, the specifics of long-form TV rights seem to favor Sony’s control.

That said, Born Again isn’t pretending that Spider-Man doesn’t exist. During a recent interview, Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio revealed that Spidey gets a mention in Born Again’s second episode.

Hamilton let it slip when he told the actors, “Wilson Fisk makes a brief reference to a kid dressed like a spider in the second episode, which is a reminder that while this is an intimate street-level story, there are a lot of superheroes out there since your characters exist in the world.”

So while Spider-Man might not be swinging into Daredevil: Born Again, the show will at least acknowledge that he’s out there somewhere. Whether we’ll ever see Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man team up again remains uncertain, but it’s got to happen at some point!
