Dave Filoni Has Been Promoted To Chief Creative Officer at Lucasfilm

Dave Filoni, one of the creative forces behind Star Wars has been given a huge promotion at Lucasfilm, as he is now the Chief Creative Officer. This means he’s going to play a much bigger role in the direction that Star Wars will be taking with both the films and the TV projects. He’s going to have a hand in a lot of things.

Star Wars fans have been wanting to see Filoni take charge at Lucasfilm, and well… now he has! He’s in a great and exciting position over there and while talking to Vanity Fair, he opened up about his new job, saying:

“In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into it, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways. In this new role, it’s opened up to basically everything that’s going on. When we’re planning the future of what we’re doing now, I’m involved at the inception phase.”

Filoni got his start at Lucasfilm with The Clone Wars, and from there he moved on to Rebels. He’s worked on a lot of the Star Wars animated projects that then moved into live-action with The Mandalorian and his most recent project was Ahsoka, which was his baby. He’s also developing a Star Wars feature film that will tie all of the events of the New Republic Era together in an epic story.

Now, he’ll be working with all of the filmmakers on the projects they are developing and it seems like this is a good thing. In regards to those projects, Filoni said:

“I’m not telling people what to do, but I do feel I’m trying to help them tell the best story that they want to tell. I need to be a help across the galaxy here, like a part of a Jedi Council almost.”

Some of those other projects include the upcoming Rey movie being developed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold’s film about the origin of the force, Taika Waititi’s project, Shawn Levy’s movie, Donald Glover’s Lando film, and several more. Filoni added:

“To truly help filmmakers, it was really important for me to experience it firsthand. I can also lend a perspective on the challenges that telling these stories will present. I feel more capable of actually being helpful outside of just saying, ‘Well, Jedi are like this, and Sith are like this…’”

What do you all think about Filoni taking on the role of Chief Creative Officer at Lucasfilm? To me, it seems like the kind of role he was meant to step into. It gets me excited for the future of the Star Wars franchise.
