Dave Filoni Teases a Lot of Lightsaber Fights in AHSOKA and Says It Will Be About "Master-Apprentice Relationships"

There’s a lot of excitement brewing for Lucasfilm’s upcoming series Star Wars: Ahsoka. Now Dave Filoni has offered up some new details and insight on the series saying that the story is all about "master-apprentice relationships", and he also says there are going to be a lot of epic lightsaber fights.

This new information came from a new featurette from IGN, which you can watch below. It sees Filoni, executive producer Jon Favreau, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, and more teasing what's to come.

Favreau says: "It's very much the idea of apprenticeship. The need for those two groups to come together in order to pass down the knowledge and help save the world, in the case of Star Wars."

Executive producer Cassie Beck added: "All of that wisdom gets passed down over those generations. We have Qui-Gon Jinn, who is the master of Obi-Wan, who is the master of Anakin Skywalker. And, by being trained by Anakin, Ahsoka is a part of that legacy as well."

Filoni then talked about the lightsaber fights: "There had to be a lot of lightsaber fights, and they had to be good because our fans know the difference. From the beginning of the series, Ahsoka is out there on the fringe of the galaxy. When she hears whispers of this warlord's return, she decides to enlist her friends' help."

Filoni also recalls how George Lucas helped him create the character of Ahsoka Tano, and how instrumental he was in her becoming the student of Anakin Skywalker. He said: "Originally, we didn't know what The Clone Wars would be. There was a Jedi, and there was a Padawan. We thought, 'We'll put them on adventures', but George had other ideas. He says, 'Well, let's give Anakin Skywalker a Padawan.' I was like, 'Anakin doesn't have a Padawan.' And he just looked at me and said, 'Anakin has a Padawan.' That was basically it, that's how Ahsoka came about."

The series is set after the fall of the Empire, and follows the “former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.” The show picks up where Star Wars Rebels left off and the search for Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) and Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) begins.

Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) joins Ahsoka on her journey, and they will be joined by Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and the droid, Chopper, and Zeb will also most likely return. The series also stars Eman Esfandi as Ezra, Ray Stevenson as Baylon, and Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati. Hayden Christensen is also said to return as Anakin Skywalker.

Ahsoka will debut on Disney+ on August 23, 2023.
