DCU Batman Rumor Teases a Major Bruce Wayne Reveal in MAN OF TOMORROW
We may finally be getting close to finding out who will play Batman in James Gunn’s DC Universe, and the Dark Knight could make his debut sooner than anyone expected.
A new rumor suggests that the DCU’s Bruce Wayne will make his first appearance in Man of Tomorrow, the upcoming Superman sequel that will see the Man of Steel and Lex Luthor forced to work together against Brainiac.
While the movie will focus on that unlikely partnership, it sounds like Gunn might have another major DC hero waiting in the wings.
According to scooper James Mack, the actor cast as Batman will reportedly be introduced either at the end of Man of Tomorrow or during a post-credits scene. The appearance would lead directly into The Brave and the Bold, the long-planned DCU Batman movie.
Of course, Gunn hasn't confirmed any of this, so it's worth treating the report as a rumor for now. Still, the possibility of finally meeting the DCU's Batman is pretty exciting, especially considering how little we've heard about his solo movie.
What's interesting is how this could change Gunn's approach to building his DC Universe. So far, he hasn't relied on post-credits scenes to tease upcoming projects the way Marvel Studios has done with the MCU.
Superman featured two post-credits scenes, but neither was meant to introduce the next big storyline. One featured Superman and Krypto, while the other gave us a funny exchange between Superman and Mr. Terrific. Supergirl didn't feature a post-credits scene at all.
Introducing Batman at the end of Man of Tomorrow would be a different approach, especially if it leads directly into his own movie. It would also give audiences their first look at the actor taking over one of DC's most iconic roles.
The other interesting part of this rumor involves Matt Reeves and his upcoming sequel, The Batman: Part II. Gunn previously explained that he didn't want to move forward with the DCU's Batman movie until Reeves had finished his sequel because he didn't want to “cloud the Batsphere.”
That made sense when both projects were moving ahead, but Reeves' sequel has faced multiple delays. With the filmmaker reportedly stepping back for personal reasons and production currently on hold, it's unclear whether the movie will experience another setback.
If Gunn is already preparing to introduce his Batman in Man of Tomorrow, it could signal that DC Studios is no longer willing to keep its version of the character waiting while Reeves finishes his separate Batman story.
As for The Brave and the Bold, Gunn first announced the movie back in 2023 as part of the DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
The original plan was to introduce an established Bruce Wayne alongside his son, Damian Wayne, who takes on the role of Robin. Gunn has since acknowledged that the story has evolved, but Batman and Damian are still expected to be at the center of the film.
With Man of Tomorrow potentially introducing Bruce Wayne, there's a chance The Brave and the Bold could be moving forward sooner than expected, which would be nice.
Gunn also reportedly has support for his larger 10-year DCU plan following the Skydance acquisition of Warner Bros., which could help get the Batman project moving.
If this rumor turns out to be true, Man of Tomorrow could deliver one of the DCU's biggest reveals yet while giving fans their first real glimpse at what Gunn has planned for Gotham City.
I'm curious to see who they end up casting as Batman. Whoever takes the role will have some pretty big shoes to fill.
