Deborah Ann Woll Reacts to DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Ending With Season 3 and Reveals Her Hopes for Karen Page
Marvel's Daredevil: Born Again is officially coming to an end with Season 3, but Deborah Ann Woll isn't ready to close the book on Karen Page. The actress recently addressed the show's cancellation and shared her thoughts on what the future might hold for her character in the MCU.
The news that Season 3 will be the show's final chapter came as a disappointment to fans, especially after the positive reception to its first two seasons. While Marvel hasn't provided a specific reason for ending the series, lower-than-expected viewership may have played a part, similar to what reportedly happened with Wonder Man.
There are reports that reshoots are underway to give Daredevil: Born Again a more satisfying conclusion. Of course, fans are still hoping Charlie Cox will continue playing Matt Murdock on the big screen, possibly alongside Spider-Man. Whether the show's supporting characters will get that same opportunity remains to be seen.
Woll has been an important part of Daredevil's story since the original Netflix series, and Karen Page has become much more than Matt Murdock's love interest. She's established herself as a determined character willing to put everything on the line to fight corruption and injustice.
Heading into Season 3, Karen and Matt are separated, with the Man Without Fear now behind bars. After helping bring down Mayor Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D'Onofrio, Karen has plenty of unfinished business, making her role in the final season particularly interesting.
During a recent interview promoting her new horror film The Cycle, Woll was asked whether the cancellation surprised her and what she hopes will happen to Karen after the series ends.
"It wasn’t super surprising to me, no," Woll said, echoing similar comments from Cox. “I don’t know about hopes moving forward. I mean, obviously, in my mind, she’s a full person with a full life, and her life will continue. She’s going to continue to fight injustice, and whether they choose to include any of that is up to people far above my pay grade."
It's a fitting perspective on Karen, who has always been someone willing to stand up for what's right, with or without Daredevil by her side.
The show's ending may not have been entirely unexpected, either. Marvel announced Season 3 shortly after the first season premiered, with Season 2 already in production at the time. However, when there was no news about a potential fourth season earlier this year, it raised questions about how much longer the series would continue.
Fortunately, Karen has already made appearances outside the main show. Woll reprised the role in The Punisher: One Last Kill Special Presentation, establishing that Marvel is willing to bring her character into other MCU projects. Even if Daredevil: Born Again ends with Season 3, there's no reason her story has to end there.
Marvel still has plenty of opportunities to bring Daredevil and his supporting cast back, whether through future Disney+ projects or a possible big-screen appearance.
Karen Page has become an essential part of Matt Murdock's world, but Woll makes a good point. Her character has a life and a purpose beyond Daredevil, and there's still plenty of story left to explore.
Hopefully, Marvel Studios recognizes that and finds a way to keep Karen Page in the MCU after Daredevil: Born Again takes its final bow.
