Director Shawn Levy Confirms His REAL STEEL Sequel Series Has Found Its Writers
While director Shawn Levy is working hard to bring us Deadpool 3 this summer, he also has other projects that fans are curious about, including the follow-up to his 2011 sci-fi action family film, Real Steel.
The movie takes place in the near future, when robot boxing is a top sport. A struggling ex-boxer, Charlie (Hugh Jackman), reluctantly teams with his estranged son, Max (Dakota Goyo), to build and train a championship robot for a last shot at redemption.
The film was a critical and box office success, and fans have been eager to revisit that world since the first film came out. Talks of a sequel have come and gone over the years, but two years ago, it was announced that Disney+ was developing a Real Steel series. We have had very few updates since then, but each one has sounded positive. Slow, but steady progress.
Now, Levy has offered one more update that also pushes the project in the right direction. While speaking with Collider recently at CinemaCon, the director was asked if the Real Steel series has a writing team yet.
Levy confirmed with a laugh, "Gosh, do I need to lie? Yes is the answer." He reassured fans that not only are writers on board, but the spirit of Real Steel remains alive and well among its original cast.
It’s such a small crumb of info, but we will take it! A writing team and director in place are a great sign that things are developing, and we can expect to hear more soon.
Are you looking forward to the Real Steel series?
