Disney CEO Bob Iger Says They Are "Focused on Improving The Quality of Our Films"

As you know, Disney Studios has recently had a string of box office disappointments in 2023, and because of that, they are rethinking their strategy… and the brilliant idea that they came up with is, “Hey! Why don’t we just start making better quality movies!?” I wonder why they didn’t just think of that before!

Disney CEO Bob Iger recently explained during an investors call that they will also be reducing the number of films released:

"We are focused on improving the quality of our films, and on better economics – not just reducing the number of titles we release, but also the cost per title. We're maximizing the full impact of our titles by embracing the multiple distribution windows at our disposal, enabling consumers to access our content in multiple ways."

The big question is, will they actually start developing better higher quality films? Or will they just continue to develop mediocre projects? One thing is for sure, they won’t stop developing live-action remakes of their animated classics!

This isn’t the first time Iger has commented on this. During a previous interview, he talked about the Marvel and Star Wars franchises, saying: "You pull back not just to focus, but also as part of our cost containment initiative. Spending less on what we make, and making less.” He went on to say:

"Marvel is a great example of that. It had not been in the television business at any significant level, and not only did they increase their movie output, but they ended up making a number of TV series. Frankly, it diluted focus and attention."

Look, I hope that Disney gets its act together and starts pumping out great films again. For a company that used to create classic films, they really aren’t doing that anymore. They just keep pumping out more of the same. They need to get back in the business of creating original stories and creating new classic films!

I’m a huge hardcore Disney fan! But, Disney has been losing its magic, and I hope that they will be able to find it again.
