Disney Reportedly Told Lucasfilm to Stop Announcing New STAR WARS Projects and Creative Collaborators

Disney has reportedly suggested to Lucasfilm that they stop announcing new Star Wars projects and creative collaborators. The reason for this is in case those projects end up never happening. Since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was released, there have been several Star Wars film projects announced, there are movies in various stages of development, but we still have yet to see another Star Wars film get made.

This report comes from former The Hollywood Reporter editor Matthew Belloni, who now writes for Puck. He claims that Disney "advised" Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy to "stop announcing projects and creative partners," to avoid backlash "when those projects don't actually happen, as is the case frequently at Lucasfilm."

Some of the projects that have been announced over the years include Patty Jenkins's Rogue Squadron, which has been removed from the release schedule. Then there’s Taika Waititi's Star Wars movie, which is the closest one to go into production. Rian Johnson's trilogy, Kevin Feige’s project, and the recently announced Damon Lindelof film. The team behind Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, were also developing a big Star Wars project at one point that ended up being scrapped.

Waititi’s movie was supposed to be released in 2023, but it’s not looking like that going to happen. As for Johnson’s trilogy, apparently, that whole thing just comes down to scheduling as he’s been busy with the Knives Out franchise.
