Taika Waititi's STAR WARS Movie Will Reportedly Start Production in Early 2023
It looks like Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie is much farther along than what Waititi has led us to believe. He’s said several times recently that he’s been trying to figure out an idea for the movie and that he’s “still throwing everything at the wall.” He’s also made it seem like there’s a possibility that the film won’t even happen.
Well, in a recent report from Heat Vision, Waititi’s Star Wars film could be in production in early 2023. The update says:
"Taika's Star Wars project may be coming your way sooner than some of his interviews let on. Multiple sources tell us that the project is eyeing an early 2023 start. God knows plans can shift with Lucasfilm, is the usual caveat, of course."
While I like most of the films that Waititi has made, I’m not sure if I want him to make a Star Wars movie. I was excited at first, but now I think I’d rather see him stick with making his original films. Since he is making a Star Wars movie, though, I hope it’s good and that his silly comedic style doesn’t take away from the story as it did with Thor: Love and Thunder.
In a previous interview, Waititi talked about wanting to do something new and different with the franchise, saying:
“Look, I think for the Star Wars universe to expand, it has to expand. I don’t think that I’m any use in the Star Wars universe making a film where everyone’s like, ‘Oh great, well that’s the blueprints to the Millennium Falcon, ah that’s Chewbacca’s grandmother.’ That all stands alone, that’s great, though I would like to take something new and create some new characters and just expand the world, otherwise it feels like it’s a very small story.”
After this quote was brought up in another interview, it was pointed out to him that if he is looking to avoid Star Wars tropes, the movie wouldn’t really be a Star Wars movie and Waititi agreed and then took back his statement:
“You know what? Whoever said that is actually probably right. Now that I think about it. Like as you were saying that, I was like, ‘Yeah, if you take away all of the Star Wars stuff, it’s not Star Wars.’ So I retract my thing that I said a couple of weeks ago!”
We’ll just have to wait and see how this turns out. When talking about how his movie might not even happen, he said: "I'm trying to write the Star Wars idea at the moment. I've got to see how that goes, because once I submit it, that might determine when it gets made or if it gets made, even."
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has been hyping up Waititi’s Star Wars movie and she says it’s the next one that will be released. She seems pretty confident in what Waititi is planning, so I’m pretty sure this film is going to happen.
