Dolph Lundgren Teases Return to Eternia in New MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Movie: “Maybe… Yeah”

It looks like Eternia’s original hero might be making a comeback. Dolph Lundgren, who famously wielded the Power Sword as He-Man in the 1987 Masters of the Universe film, has dropped a major hint that he could appear in Amazon MGM’s upcoming live-action reboot.

During a chat with Extra TV, Lundgren was asked if he’s involved in the new Masters of the Universe movie, and his response practically confirmed it with a smile, saying:

“Maybe, yeah, you will have to check it out when it comes out.”

Fans have been speculating about Lundgren’s return ever since he posted about working on a “secret” project in London during the early days of production. While his role remains under wraps, the leading theory is that he might play King D’Vann Grayskull, the legendary ancestor of He-Man.

Lundgren also shared his thoughts on the new movie and why he’s excited to see Masters of the Universe return to the big screen:

“If you think a new He-Man movie makes you feel old, I feel old! I was in it! They've been trying to remake the picture for at least 15 years, and I'm glad they're doing it. There's a great cast, a great crew. It's a big budget picture with MGM/Amazon. I think they're doing a great job.”

He went on to compare Prince Adam’s personality to today’s modern superheroes, saying:

“Prince Adam has a bit more romanticism to the character than other superheroes. Marvel and DC are a little harder-edged. There's something magical and childlike about it. And even though they're kind of making an adult picture, there's something soft and positive about that character.”

The new Masters of the Universe movie stars Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man, with Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, and Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms.

Morena Baccarin plays The Sorceress, while James Purefoy and Charlotte Riley take on the roles of King Randor and Queen Marlena. Alison Brie joins the cast as Evil-Lyn, alongside Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops, Jon Xue Zhang as Ram-Man, and Kristin Wiigvoicing Roboto.

After years of false starts Amazon MGM finally picked up the sword, with Bumblebee director Travis Knight set to helm. The screenplay was rewritten by Chris Butler, based on an earlier draft from David Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).

The movie will follow a young Prince Adam who crash-lands on Earth and grows up far from Eternia, unaware of his royal destiny. Years later, he rediscovers his magical Power Sword and is transported home to face the evil Skeletor and claim his true identity as He-Man, “the most powerful man in the universe.”

Masters of the Universe will bring the power back to theaters on June 5, 2026.
