DUNE: PART 2 and LORD OF THE RINGS: THE WAR OF THE ROHIRRIM Release Dates Delayed

Warner Bros. has announced that Legendary Entertainment’s Dune: Part Two and New Line Cinema’s The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim have been delayed. We’re gonna have to wait a little longer before we get to see these films and that’s a bummer.

Dune: Part Two is moving from November 3rd, 2023 to March 15, 2024. The War of the Rohirrim is moving from its April 12th, 2024 release date to December 13th, 2024. As you probably suspected, these films are delayed because of the actors’ and writers’ strikes.

It was also announced that the release of The Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was moved to April 12th, 2024. It was originally set to come out a month earlier on March 15, 2024. That’s not a big change, though.

Dune is a mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, and tells the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), “a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.”

This next chapter of the story will explore the “mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

The War of the Rohirrim takes place two centuries before the events of Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and it will “explore the exploits of Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan, and the creation of Helm’s Deep, the stronghold.”

The movie is set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films. “A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg – a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Hera, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.”

The Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire “follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own,” reads the movie’s synopsis. “The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins, and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.”

I’m looking forward to watching both of these movies, but I guess it’s better late then never.
