Elizabeth Olsen Denies She's in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY, and Has “No Idea” When Scarlet Witch Could Return
Elizabeth Olsen is setting the record straight about her possible return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite all the fan theories swirling around Avengers: Doomsday, it sounds like she’s not part of the next big Avengers movie, at least, not yet.
When asked by The Playlist if fans might see Wanda Maximoff in Avengers: Doomsday, Olsen responded:
“Well, I can't. Honestly, I do wait. I want to see [her] return in this role because I think what they've done with her is really great, and I love the journey she's taken. I think it's always a fun one to get to go back into, and I just have no idea how or when, for sure.”
That answer doesn’t exactly close the door on her return, but it does seem to confirm that she’s not currently involved in the upcoming film, if you believe her. Olsen clearly still has a soft spot for the Scarlet Witch, and it’s something she’s talked about before.
“We're grown people behaving like children on a playground. We're flying. We're shooting things out of our hands. And it’s a character that I've gotten to return to so many times over 10 years,” she said recently about her time in the MCU.
“It's good to put her down, and then I miss her and I want her back. I'd jump at the opportunity to be in her shoes again.”
Of course, Wanda’s fate in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness left her future uncertain. Her apparent death was a dramatic exit, but in the Marvel universe, death isn’t exactly permanent. Fans know better than to count out a powerful character like the Scarlet Witch.
As for Avengers: Doomsday, the movie is going to be one of Marvel’s biggest ensemble events yet. It’s set to bring together heroes like Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, and Letitia Wright’s Shuri, along with the Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four, and even returning X-Men characters.
Marvel fans can expect Avengers: Doomsday to hit theaters on December 18 next year. Whether Wanda Maximoff will be part of that showdown remains to be seen.
