Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, and Jesse Plemons Already Shot Director Yorgos Lanthimos' New Movie AND
Last year it was announced that Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Plemons, and Margaret Qualley would be teaming up for a new film project from Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos. That movie is tilted AND, and the film has already been shot.
During a recent interview with Brazilian outlet Omelete, cinematographer Robbie Ryan revealed Lanthimos shot the film while the VFX team on Poor Things was finishing their work in post-production. Ryan said:
“It’s a very, very exciting film. There are three stories and it is very different from Poor [Things]. He wrote that one with Efthimis [Filippou], with whom he wrote The [Killing of a] Sacred Deer. It’s still Yorgos, but there’s a different sensibility.”
Ryan continued, “[Poor Things’] post-production took so long, and with COVID shutting down some projects, we had a window to shoot. Yorgos said ‘I don’t want to watch special effects every day, let’s make another movie!’”
There’s no other information on what the story would be about, but Searchlight Pictures presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield previously said: “Working with Yorgos continues to be a highlight for us at Searchlight, and this is yet another truly original project that sets his work apart. Working again with Emma, Willem, Jesse and Margaret as well as Element and Film4 is just the icing on the cake.”
Yorgos Lanthimos has made some odd films as a director, and it’ll be interesting to see what this next one will be about. His next movie, Poor Things, looks so weird!
In that story, Stone plays a woman who’s brought back to life by a Dr. Frankenstein-like character played by Dafoe. This movie is based on the 1992 novel by Alistair Gray, and in the story, “the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.”
