FAST FOREVER Director Hints There’s More to Vin Diesel’s Script Story Than Fans Know
The road to Fast Forever has been anything but smooth. Fans have been waiting for concrete news on the final chapter of the Fast & Furious franchise, but every update seems to raise even more questions than it answers.
Now, director Louis Leterrier has added another unexpected twist, suggesting there's more going on with the movie's script than he's allowed to talk about.
Earlier this year, Vin Diesel gave fans what looked like a major milestone for the franchise's finale. Along with revealing the film's title and confirming a 2028 release, he shared an emotional message:
"No one said the road would be easy… but it’s ours. One that has defined us and become our legacy… And a legacy… lasts Forever. March 17th 2028! FAST FOREVER."
That announcement gave fans something to rally around, but since then, official news has been surprisingly scarce.
Then things got a little more complicated. While promoting another project, Alan Ritchson, who joined the franchise in Fast X, admitted that getting Fast Forever across the finish line hasn't exactly been easy.
"I think there’s going to be another one," Ritchson said. "I think it’s going to be great. And it’s just a matter of solving some big problems, very real problems."
Not long after those comments, Diesel shared another update, saying he had read the Fast Forever screenplay and called it the best script he'd read in decades. According to him, it even brought him to tears.
That would've sounded like fantastic news... if not for what happened next. Speaking with Polygon, Leterrier revealed that he actually hasn't read the script Diesel was talking about.
On its own, that's a surprising detail. While it's technically possible for an actor or producer to receive a draft before the director, it certainly isn't what most people would expect on a production of this size.
But it was Leterrier's response when he was directly asked about the screenplay that really caught everyone's attention.
"Well, uh, I’d love to tell you the full truth, but I can’t…There will be an ending, and it’s great. I was very, very lucky to be part of the franchise, and I love Vin, and I love Universal. They’re great to work with. So yeah. We’ll see, hopefully."
That answer feels loaded. Leterrier clearly stops himself from saying more, leaving the impression that there's a bigger story unfolding that fans simply aren't hearing yet.
Whether that involves multiple versions of the screenplay, shifting creative plans, or something entirely different is impossible to know right now. But his comments certainly leave the door open for plenty of speculation.
Naturally, fans are wondering how Diesel could be celebrating a script that reportedly moved him to tears while the film's own director says he hasn't even seen it. There may be a perfectly reasonable explanation, but until someone fills in the blanks, the situation is only becoming more confusing.
There's another interesting detail tucked into Leterrier's response as well. His wording doesn't exactly project confidence that he'll still be directing the movie through production.
While he speaks positively about Diesel and Universal, his closing "We'll see, hopefully" doesn't sound like someone confirming everything is locked into place.
That uncertainty also makes the announced March 17, 2028 release date feel ambitious. If major creative questions are still being worked out, there's plenty of reason to wonder whether Fast Forever can actually make that date.
For now, the finish line for the Fast & Furious saga remains in sight, but the path getting there seems far less straightforward than fans were led to believe.
