First Footage of Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon Bonapart in Ridley Scott's NAPOLEON

A clip from Ridley Scott’s upcoming historical epic Napoleon has surfaced and it offers a brief look at Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon Bonapart. A couple of months ago, I got to see a battle sequence from the movie, and the footage I saw featured one of the greatest and most stunning battle sequences that we’ve ever seen from Scott. It was jaw-droppingly awesome! You can watch us talk about it here.

The movie is described as “an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine, played by Vanessa Kirby.”

It’s explained that the film “captures Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary.”

Kirby (Mission: Impossible - Fallout, The Crown) takes on the role of Empress Joséphine. When talking about the film, Scott said, "Napoleon is a man I've always been fascinated by. He came out of nowhere to rule everything — but all the while he was waging a romantic war with his adulterous wife Josephine. He conquered the world to try to win her love, and when he couldn't, he conquered it to destroy her, and destroyed himself in the process.”

The film was written by David Scarpa, and the original title was Kitbag, which is derived from the saying, “There is a general’s staff hidden in every soldier’s kitbag.”

Apple Original Films and Sony Pictures Entertainment will release Napoleon on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.
